Eighth Grade Participates in Youth Climate Summit

April 25, 2024

On Friday, April 20, the HDC eighth-grade team went to the Nurture Nature Center in Easton to participate in the 5th annual Youth Climate Summit.

Students contributed to a reclaimed art piece, made of plastic and fishing nets that were recovered from the Delaware River.  They also helped create a weaving with recycled tee shirts. All students took a quiz to determine their climate super power, and to identify ways that they can make a difference in addressing climate change. Students also heard from keynote speaker Dr. Diane Husic from Moravian University (and parent of Moravian Academy alum!) about empowering youth engagement in climate action and solutions addressing local and global challenges.

Students also got to speak to local community agencies at the climate fair, where they made milkweed seed balls, learned about green energy solutions, sustainable farming practices, and heard how local universities are adopting sustainability initiatives. They ended the day watching videos of sustainable programs that high school students across the Lehigh Valley have created.
