Founder's Day 2021 at Swain
On Wednesday, October 20th, Swain's Campus celebrated Founder's Day, a cherished tradition as we take time to honor all that D. Esther Swain contributed to our community when she founded Swain in 1929.
The day included two in-person events for families: a Kindergarten 'pinning' ceremony, where Swain's class of 2030 received their honor pins, and an afternoon tree-planting ceremony sponsored and led by Swain's 8th Grade class.
Both in-person traditions honor Mrs. Swain, who first began her Swain journey with a small group of Kindergarteners, and was known by her colleagues and friends to love a Dogwood Tree. All of these details are sprinkled throughout the events with meaning and nostalgic intent.
At both ceremonies, Swain's Middle School Show Choir led the Alma Mater, we recited the Honor Pledge as a community, and Dr. Webster shared remarks on why Founder's Day is a noteworthy tradition.
In addition to the in-person events, we live-streamed two Lower School performances, and shared pre-recorded musical numbers on Swain's social media throughout the day.
