Latin American Food Class Visits La Bicicleta Arepa Bar
As part of Mrs. Andrade’s Latin American Food class in the Upper School, students have the opportunity to get more involved with the Hispanic community in the Lehigh Valley.
All of us know that food brings us together and this was not the exception. Grayson, Eric, Xavier, Sajjad, and Emma practiced in class how to order food and researched more about South American food in our community. To promote "hands-on" experiences, Mrs. Andrade took them to La Bicicleta Arepa Bar, which is a family-owned Venezuelan restaurant. The students put into practice the language skills they acquired in class time by ordering food, paying, and talking about Venezuelan food.
Furthermore, one of the owners talked to the students about how La Bicicleta Arepa Bar went from being a vision to becoming a reality. He emphasized the challenges he and his family have faced as immigrants and how they overcame them to make their dreams come true. As a result of their success, they have opened two locations in Allentown so far.
