Mapping Marvels: A 4th-Grade Journey into Geography and Creativity
On the Swain Campus, the fourth-grade students have been actively engaged in an immersive exploration of maps.
Throughout their study, they delved into various types of United States maps, mastering the art of interpretation and venturing into the exciting realm of map creation. Collaborating in partner groups, the students embarked on the imaginative task of designing their own islands, crafting a total of five distinct two-dimensional maps to bring their creations to life.
Following the completion of the 2D maps, the students faced the exciting decision of selecting one map to transform into a three-dimensional masterpiece. Armed with Model Magic, Playdoh, Lego, popsicle sticks, tissue paper, and an array of other craft materials, they unleashed their creativity. The resulting creations stand as a testament to the power of project-based learning, showcasing not only the knowledge gained but also the ingenuity and artistic flair of the young learners.
