Dear Moravian Academy Community,

As we put the final touches on what has been a year filled with unexpected changes, new learning paradigms, and much uncertainty, we look ahead to the 2020-21 school year. There is much to do on the horizon.

Amidst this enduring  pandemic, we are developing a process more than a single solution to deliver the best education for your children. We have formed a reopening committee and task forces to gather expertise from the medical, scientific, and legal professions as well as our educators and trustees at Moravian Academy. Their work begins with our school mission, which remains our north star. 

We are preparing a variety of potential reopening scenarios. As an independent school, we intend to provide more than a one-size-fits-all approach. We have written the goals below to ensure we are focused on what’s most important. Providing for health and safety is the foundation of our work. Our commitment to learning is unwavering as we plan to meet student needs in potentially changing conditions.  Our goals are:

• We will prioritize the health, wellness, and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and families.
• We will maintain a fervent focus on quality teaching and learning with a priority on the habits of mind that prepare students for success.
• We will continue the traditions of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices that ensure all members of our community have a valued voice.
• We will preserve the long-term sustainability of Moravian Academy and ensure its historic reputation endures beyond this crisis.

Our success will rely on real-time information from our families, the best guidance from health agencies, and preparation time for our faculty and staff. Since 1742, our school has “encouraged sound innovations to meet contemporary challenges”; this rings true now more than ever.
