October 01, 2020

Olivia Wee ’21 aspires to a future career in the U.S. government after studying international relations in college. Over the last year, she has been in passionate pursuit of her goal, engaging in experiential learning opportunities whenever possible. Her accomplishments include:

  • Receiving the Governor’s Civic Engagement Award Certificate of Honorable Mention from the Pennsylvania Department of State, in recognition of her role in Moravian Academy’s successful voter registration drive.
  • Completing a semester at the School of Ethics and Global Leadership (SEGL), where she defended a 40-page student-prepared collaborative policy document on responding to future pandemics in front of Abby McCartney, who is part of Senator Elizabeth Warren’s policy team, and John Auerbach, who is President and CEO of the Trust for American’s Health (a leading nonpartisan health policy advocacy organization), former Associate Director of the CDC, and former Massachusetts Commissioner for Public Health.  Olivia also met with current and former members of Congress and former senior U.S. foreign policy and intelligence officials.
  • Being selected as a Girl Security scholar and presenting her essay “A Young American’s Answer to What Ails America” at a virtual event with Dr. Fiona Hill, Senior Fellow with the Center on the United States and Europe at The Brookings Institution, and Mark. P. Harvey, Spring 2020 Resident Fellow with the Harvard Institute of Politics. Olivia is currently conducting research on Estonia, a member of NATO.
  • Learning about Russian language and culture as a 2020 Virtual National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarship recipient for the Fall Semester program.
  • Participating as a delegate at this year’s virtual week-long New Jersey American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State program, where she was elected both City Party Leader and a County Party Leader and was a candidate for her party’s nomination for Governor.
  • Earning Outstanding Delegate awards twice after participating in two seven-hour Model United Nations Online Debates involving the situations in Syria and Iran.
  • Winning at the district-level (Sussex County, New Jersey) in the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest for the second consecutive year. The contest is hosted nationwide by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Moravian Academy is proud of Olivia's leadership and commitment to serving her country in government, and we are excited to see how her future unfolds.
