Pre-Kindergarten Makes Rainbow Using Triangular Prisms

April 22, 2022

Many of our Pre-Kindergarten friends already knew that rainbows are made when sunshine passes through rain.  But recently, they learned a new way to make a rainbow... with a triangular prism!

imaging.seesaw-1Our pre-kindergarten friends learned when white light from the sun enters the prism, it is refracted, meaning the light bends. As the light moves through the prism, the various colors separate and disperse at different speeds as it leaves the prism.   These differences create the rainbow of colors we see.

To demonstrate this concept, each student worked with a prism to catch white light, the sun's rays, and make a rainbow.
