The Beauty of Nature Journaling
October 08, 2020
Sixth graders in Mrs. Bulman’s English class have been busy nature journaling around campus this fall. We’ve been practicing descriptive writing as we record sensory details, describe squirrel antics, and make other observations of the world around us.
We recently spent time revising our entries from the Bethlehem Sculpture Garden; students fleshed out their notes into full paragraphs and took turns reading them aloud to classmates. We even turned it into a matching game, with students listening carefully and matching their classmates’ descriptions to a photo bank of the plants in the garden! They’re turning into sharp observers and vivid writers, and we’re looking forward to filling our journals in the upcoming months.
