Third Grade Goes Maple Sugaring at Kettle Creek Environmental Center
March 03, 2023
On March 1, 2023 third grade students on the Swain Campus went maple sugaring at Kettle Creek Environmental Center.
As an extension of their Native American curriculum, third grade students visited Kettle Creek Environmental Center to learn about the history of making maple syrup.
At the Messing Sugar Bush, students were treated to a demonstration of tapping the trees, collecting sap, and boiling down the sap on an evaporator to make syrup. Students also had the opportunity to help tap the tree and sample the pure maple syrup.
Third-graders will take what they learned on this trip and apply it to their time in Engineering and Design class. They will make their own syrup from maple and walnut trees on the Swain Campus with Mr. Sauers.
