Virtual Life at the Middle School
During Middle School, social connections can mean everything. What a strange experience it has been to adapt to virtual school in this regard.
It’s true that students today have so many more means available to stay connected. How lucky they are to have the ability to see one another while talking through various technologies, not to mention simply connecting through text message or via social media. They can play together online. However, we all know that in-person student life at Moravian Academy Middle School is what makes our experience so meaningful and vibrant, and we are all missing that.
Although we’ve been apart, we are undoubtedly still connected. Our advisors have been doing outstanding work keeping the daily connection, support, and fun going. All-school initiatives such as spirit days and participating in the Birthday Lovefeast remind us that we are all still one school even though we can’t be together. Students at our division have participated in curioSity Day photo themes and fitness workouts. And in our daily classes, students are engaged, continuing to learn, and interacting with one another.
As we go into the final month of school, more student life opportunities will be available to the Middle School students. Although we cannot offer sports or SAMS events, we will do what we can to give them even more possibilities for social interaction. Some options will be to participate in Monday Mindfulness, go to a Virtual Break “location” to hang out together via Zoom, or to attend a Friday Fun after school activity. We will gather as grade levels to keep that class spirit going, and we will continue the tradition of enjoying slideshows of how our eighth graders have grown throughout their years at the Academy. Please be sure to join us for our end of year Awards Assembly and Closing Chapel available in a virtual format as we come together to celebrate another great year at Moravian.
We all can’t wait to be back on our campus again. Let’s encourage students to enrich their student life experience by engaging in all that is available to them in these virtual circumstances.
