A Daily Dose of Inspiration from Black Artists and Innovators
February 12, 2021
Here is just a taste of what Middle School students learn about throughout Black History Month. Each morning, teachers present a slideshow that highlights modern-day leaders, scientists, artists, musicians, etc., that, otherwise, students might never learn about or explore on their own!
When curating the slideshows, I highlight people who made a difference to their communities and fought against oppression. I don't want to dehumanize people; instead, I want to to show students the many varied, meaningful contributions from the Black community in our society.
During the week of February 8, we featured:
- Artist Marie Johnson-Calloway
- Inventor Dr. Patricia Booth
- Singer Billie Holiday
- Inventor and aerospace engineer Lonnie G. Johnson
- Photographer Aaron R. Turner
