Ace Your Child's Student-Led Conference

January 30, 2020

Sixth, seventh and eighth graders have used portions of advisory and/or classroom periods to construct a portfolio of work collected from their classes. Students have also set goals for each class and determined an action plan for how to reach these goals. Classroom teachers and the advisor have guided the students, step by step through the process.

This year’s SLCs will occur on Thursday, February 6th (3:30 – 7:00 pm) and Friday, February 7th (8:00 am – 3:00 pm). All parents and guardians are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

Conferences will occur in the advisor's homeroom and are scheduled for 30 minutes to allow for the student to share their goals, their strengths, their challenges, and to also answer questions.

Guidelines to Ace Your Child’s Student-Led Conference

1. Let your child take the lead. They can do it!

2. Be positive. Celebrate the successes. Small wins add up quickly.

3. Ask what he/she is most proud of.

4. Ask what you can do to support your child’s learning or to help them achieve their stated goals.

5. Ask for clarification if you do not understand something.

6. Praise effort and skill development over grades.

7. Save sensitive family or social topics for a private meeting with the teacher.

8. Students and their families should plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before the scheduled start time.
