What we're curious about
Earlier this year, Genesis Ortega, the producer and host of PBS39's Spanish-speaking news show, "Es Tiempo Lehigh Valley," was a guest at Moravian Academy, visiting students in my Advanced Spanish: "Latinos in the Lehigh Valley" course.
The AP Spanish class recently finished their unit on Personal Identity. During the unit students explored what defines the self through reading poetry and essays by Neruda, García Lorca, and other authors. Then, students wrote essays about what makes them who they are, which they then transposed to the shape of their very own thumbprints.
The fourth-year courses at Moravian Academy underwent a big change this year. Now, instead of the traditional year-long Spanish 4 / French 4 / Chinese 4 class, the department offers several semester-long courses that teach the advanced grammar through cultural topics that run the gamut on the expertise and passions of the teachers who offer them.
