Madame Sanborn’s AP French class recently studied declarations of love. First they read and viewed the famous balcony scene from Cyrano de Bergerac. Then, they viewed a declaration of love to France, which was the winning oration in the 2019 contest of eloquence “Le Grand Oral.” Finally, the students were charged with creating their own declaration of love. The catch? It could not be written for a person. Enjoy!
Upper School French students participated in Manie Musicale for the second year in a row. Manie Musicale is a French song competition started in 2017 by Stephanie Carbonneau and Michelle Fournier, two middle school French teachers from Maine. The goal of Manie Musicale is to increase student engagement in the French language, expand their cultural knowledge, and improve their French skills using popular songs.
Madame Sanborn’s AP French class studied the classic Antoine de Saint-Exupéry novella Le Petit Prince in the fall. As part of their final assessment, they entered the ‘Conversation with The Little Prince’ writing contest sponsored by UNESCO, the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Foundation, Le Labo des Histoires, and #LearningPlanet to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the author’s birth. While it appears to be a children’s book, The Little Prince is quite philosophical with perpetually relevant observations about life and human nature.
