The eighth grade chair project is a tradition on the Swain Campus as each student brings in a chair (stool, bench, or table) and transforms it into a work of art.

Students research famous artists and a variety of artwork during the brainstorming process.  They will select one piece of artwork from their favorite artist that becomes the inspiration for their chair project. In the process of recreating the work of art on to their chair, they are learning new drawing and painting techniques to recreate their inspiration artwork.  

Before the painting can begin, students learn how to sand and prime the chairs. This is an exciting step because their chairs are like a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless!

Currently, students are a little over halfway through completing their chair project. Eighth-grade artists have been working hard in each class to complete these projects in one trimester. Not an easy task. Every day they make creative decisions, problem solve and become more confident in their painting skills.
