FIRE Focuses on Sustainability
In the final weeks of the academic year, all ninth-graders culminated FIRE (Freshmen Independent Research Experience) with a project that focused on sustainability.
Students taught an 8-10 minute interdisciplinary lesson to their classmates on a topic that related the concept of sustainability. They were encouraged to engage their peers in discussions, activities, and brainstorming exercises to help them think through their presentation topic.
Lessons included how sustainability relates to fashion, the Olympics, government, religious conflict, mental health, the performing arts, business, and more. After their lesson, students were asked to reflect on their lesson and share with peers from other history classes.
Congratulations to ninth grade for communally raising awareness about such a plethora of topics during this project!
