Fourth Grade Begins Studies on Mexico

After completing our study of the regions of the United States, we have moved on to our neighbor to the south, Mexico. We are reading and researching topics on climate, products and natural resources,  landmarks, culture, and government.

One of our first activities was to discuss the holiday Dia de los Muertos: "The Day of the Dead."  The holiday honors dead ancestors. Skeletons, or clalacas, are important Day of the Dead decorations. These skeletons are usually cheerful. People also eat skulls and skeletons made of sugar and candy. During the day's festivities, people wear costumes and celebrate together with friends and family. Families gather at the graves of their close relatives. There, they decorate the graves with flowers, have a picnic, and tell stories about their relatives who have passed away,

At the end of our unit on Mexico, students will be presenting everything they have learned. Check back soon to see their projects!
