As we count down to the start of the Inspiration4 mission, here are some fast facts from your friendly neighborhood science teacher.

Fast Facts:

Speed required to achieve/maintain orbit = 17,500 mph. 

That is about 25 times the speed of sound. 

At that speed, the spacecraft covers 5 miles in 1 second!

They will orbit the earth once every 90 minutes!

In a 24 hour period, the Inspiration4 crew will experience 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets.

It will take about eight and a half minutes to go from 0 mph to 17,500 mph.

The Inspiration4 crew will experience a sustained 3g force during ascent. (3 times the force of gravity. For instance, a 150-pound person would feel as though they weighed 450 pounds during that time.)

There is a Moravian Academy flag signed by students on board!

There is a Martin Guitar Ukelele on board that will be played by Chris Sembroski and auctioned upon return.

Haley Arceneaux will be the youngest person ever to orbit the Earth.

She is also the first person to go to space with a prosthetic leg.

Dr. Sian Proctor will be the fourth African American woman to go to space! She is a college professor, geologist, artist, and runner-up in the last NASA Astronaut selection process.

In 2009, Jared Isaacman broke the world record for the fastest circumnavigation of the Earth in a private jet. He did it in 61 hours and 51 minutes, smashing the previous record by 21 hours!

He raised 100,000 dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation as part of his record-breaking adventure.

As a kid, Jared Isaacman attended the Aviation Challenge, an aviation part of the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, where Mrs. Daniels and Mr. Pomeroy went for Space Academy for Educators in the summer of 2010. It is a truly INSPIRING place for those of you who love space and aviation.

Coincidentally, Chris Sembroski was a camp counselor at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Al when he was younger.
