The Story Class' collaboration with the Lower School was a little different this year.  Conducted all on Zoom, the sessions had Story students being paired with Downstairs Kindergarteners and, in each session, we worked together to create a story.

In our first session, we read Faith Ringgold's book, Tar Beach. Faith Ringgold, quilt artist and storyteller, expresses her stories both in writing and in her textile arts, and especially in her quilt-making.

Our Story project takes inspiration from Ringgold's art and story, which has her young protagonist, Cassie, flying over New York City at night.  The drawings of all of us flying over our special places inspired the stories we created and the story quilts we made together.
