Inspired by the book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds, International Dot Day was celebrated globally on or around September 15.

More than 16 million people around the world from 182 countries, including our first-graders, participated in this special day. About the day, Mr. Reynolds writes: “Imagine the power and potential of millions of people around the world connecting, collaborating, creating and celebrating all that creativity inspires and invites.”

In the story, "The Dot," the main character, a little girl named Vashti, learns that even by making a simple dot she can make her mark on the world. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.

First graders created their own dots by making crayon relief paintings.  Each one is unique and special, just like our first graders. We encourage you to stop by the Lower Main Building first floor lobby to experience our Dot Gallery for your self.
