Month Long Celebrations
Haitian Heritage Month is a nationally recognized month celebrated in May every year. Haitian Heritage Month is an expansion of the annual Haitian Flag Day, which falls on May 18.
Jewish-American Heritage Month was established in 2006 as part of an effort to educate all Americans of the contributions and achievements of Jewish Americans
Mental Health Awareness Month is intended to not only raise awareness but also to reduce the stigma sometimes associated with mental health and mental health treatment.
National Asian American and South Pacific Islander Heritage Month recognizes the influence and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the achievements and culture of the United States.
Important Calendar Dates
May 5 – Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862.
May 17 – International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia was created in 2004 to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex people, and all of those with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and sex characteristics.
May 21 – World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, also known as Diversity Day is a day set aside to pay tribute to the cultural diversities between different countries, states, and people in the world.
May 29 – Memorial Day dedicated to all the men and women in the U.S. military who died fighting for every American’s freedom.
