Moravian Academy has been buzzing with energy since the start of the school year. Students have been in the grind, completing many class assessments while simultaneously excelling in extra-curricular activities.

From the first day of school, students at Moravian Academy have experienced many special events. This year marked the first for the Upper School Retreat, an overnight trip to Camp Canadensis to kick off the new school year in a recreational setting. Students received the opportunity to engage in a variety of outdoor activities, mentor freshman groups to ease their transition into high school and solidify connections within the community.

Moravian Academy also celebrated the 20th Anniversary in September of Red and Gold Games Day, a field day with students from all divisions. Red and gold streamers, glitter and silly string adorned the upper school campus as students were divided into the Red and Gold teams and faced each other with spirited competition. The community always enjoys seeing enthusiastic first graders connect with seniors at the games, further strengthening the student body at Moravian in a lively manner.

In addition to eagerly hosting unique all-school events, Moravian Academy celebrates the success of the fall sports teams, who have been flying high with remarkable seasons. Both the boys and the girls soccer teams defended their District XI titles and carried their winning streaks to the PIAA State Tournament. Similarly, the field hockey team qualified for states, after earning the silver medal in the district finals. Girls tennis captured the district team title and the first singles title, and challenged their formidable opponents at the state tournament. The boys cross country team also hopped on the train of success, as they raced to obtain the district title for the first time in Moravian’s history and sent additional runners to states. Golf had an impressive season as well, placing second at districts and competing at the PIAA Golf Championship.

Apart from sports, the coming of autumn also brings much excitement for the arts. Students and staff are looking forward to the Nov. 22 and 23 Coffeehouse, an annual variety show that showcases many acts, such as singing, dancing, and instrument playing. Coffeehouse will also feature Moravian’s musical groups, including the Jazz Band, Handbells, Chorale, Chamber Singers, and Coda Red, the a capella group. Over the past couple of weeks, tech crew and all of the performers have been pulling out all the stops to produce another successful and entertaining show.

Many clubs at Moravian have also been working hard to achieve their goals set out for the year. The Diversity Club attended the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Region Diversity Conference (MARD), a conference at Abington Friends School highlighting issues pertaining to identity (such as race, ethnicity, and religion). The International Club and the Jewish Heritage Club hosted Israeli Night, which featured Israeli culture with food, dance and music and making baklava. The Debate Club started the season off strong with several students placing at a regional tournament in Reading and qualifying for the national qualifiers tournament in March. Quiz Bowl successfully answered many trivia questions, placing third at a competition at Delaware Valley.

Moravian Academy has embarked on another promising adventure with many activities on board. The community cherishes the diverse set of opportunities the school has to offer, making Moravian Academy a special place for everyone to persevere through hard work and dedication.
