Soirée de la Francophonie
This past Friday, January 31, the Upper School held our first annual Soirée de la Francophonie!
The evening's festivities began with a video about where French is spoken and studied around the world, followed by a Kahoot challenge to test our knowledge. Students then made their way "around the French-speaking world" to various stations run by both Upper School faculty and French students.
Student attendees of any language were welcome to...
- "go to France" for a homemade crêpe;
- try specialties from Haïti and Cameroun made by the Tout-Puissant and Ewunkem families;
- learn French ballet terms with Keira Smith '22 and Samantha Abraham '22;
- learn about French history with Eric Jackson '22;
- make Mardi Gras masks with Azra Turkyolu '22;
- talk about French fashion with Katy Shnier '22;
- play a "Guess the French artist" game with art teacher Sue Maurer;
- read French books and poems;
- play Wii tennis using sport phrases in French; and
- learn about the differences between France and Québec with science teacher Dr. Gaby Dee!
We also had two students - Yiyi Chen '22 and Lily Farr '22- choose and read a French poem aloud to those in attendance.

Fun was had by all and we look forward to making this event a new staple in the Moravian Academy Upper School experience.
