Swain Kindergarten Visits the Banana Factory

Swain Campus Kindergarten recently visited the Banana Factory Arts and Education Center for their Explore Art Tour and Art Making Activity Experience.

IMG_8846Our kindergarten students got to experience all the Banana Factory has to offer through a special program that pairs a 30-45 minute guided visit in the galleries and artist studios with a 45-minute art-making activity in one of the Banana Factory studios or classrooms. After exploring and discussing different works of art in the galleries, students create their own unique objects to take home. Creative challenges encourage material exploration, creative thinking, and problem-solving. All art-making workshops are led by professional Teaching Artists.IMG_8873

During their visit, our kindergarteners visited the Bart Cooper's Gallery - Heroes: My Heroes Actually Have Real Superpowers.  This creative expresses what being a superhero looks like through the lens of popular culture, and what better way to do that than by paying homage to the most popular comic book characters and American history’s leading ladies of justice and change.

They also learned about artist, Kailey Atkinson who primarily works with mixed media collage with 2D and 3D elements, illustration, and papercraft. After visiting the glassblowing studio for a demonstration, students visited the Visual Arts Classroom and made creations out of model magic. The children were taught how to color the model magic and form it into their own creative creations.
