An Identity Ecosystem Takes Root at Moravian Academy

If you find yourself walking around on the Merle-Smith Campus in the next few weeks, you may notice a curious and colorful outcropping of mushrooms growing near the Rose Garden. But these mushrooms aren’t just any mushrooms! They are the living embodiment of the stories of the Seniors in the Story and Poetry classes in our Identity Ecosystem project.

Writing music for multiple cellos came about by accident, several years ago. Someone I knew bet that I couldn’t arrange John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever” for an army of cellos. So, I did. And then I recorded it, multi-layering the tracks with each new version, with me playing each cello part. This was well before the digital age was upon us.

Moravian College Professor Dr. Larry Lipkis Visits Sixth Grade

On October 8, the sixth grade had a visit from Dr. Larry Lipkis, professor of music at Moravian College and father to two Moravian Academy alumni. Dr. Lipkis made his annual visit to the Middle School to enrich the students’ preparation for the Renaissance Faire field trip. He performs with the Baltimore Consort, an internationally acclaimed early music ensemble specializing in popular music from Shakespeare’s time.
