The Black Student Union Heads to the Big Apple
Over the weekend, accompanied by Mrs. Washington, Mr. Judkins, and Ms. Elias-Horvath, the Black Student Union (BSU) took a trip to New York City.
We traveled back in time to learn the story of Michael Jackson and jam out to some of his record-breaking hits.
But, let me take you back to the way this trip began. On Saturday morning, April 23, members of BSU boarded a coach bus to travel to NYC.
Upon arrival, we shopped around unsure of what to expect in MJ the Musical. After gauging everyone's excitement at intermission, I knew we made the right decision on the trip activity. I mean if "Thriller" doesn’t electrify you, I don’t know what will!
We celebrated MJ winning his first eight Grammy Awards, but also experienced the pressure and consequences of constantly being in the spotlight. The show came to a close with the audience getting up off their seats and clapping to the beat of “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'' and shouting, “Ma-ma-se, ma-ma-sa, ma-ma-ko-ssa” or maybe that was just me.
After the show, we enjoyed a delicious array of Caribbean food at Jasmine’s Caribbean Cuisine. We all grooved in our seats with the live DJ, who even happened to play a couple MJ hits. What a full circle moment to end a spectacular trip! This experience allowed us to grow closer as a club, and we are so appreciative to alumna Kate Thulin ’07MA who generously sponsored this trip!
