Twisted Up Fairy Tales in 3rd Grade
Our third grade friends recently began their study of fairy tales and kicked off this new book genre with a twisted up fairy tale and readers' theater.
Swain third grade began their study of Fairy Tales. After exploring a few familiar tales to discover the unique elements of this reading genre, the fairy tales took a twist!
Students explored the, "what if?" For example, what if the story was told from a different character's perspective or what if one thing happened differently? Eventually, our readers became authors and created their own versions of familiar fairy tales.
To practice twisting up a tale, third grade read "The Gingerbread Man" and then its twisted version, "The Stinky Cheese Man."
Small teams then worked together to bring a short script based on "The Stinky Cheese Man" to life! Teams worked hard to read their lines with fluency, agree on how to "act out their lines", and created props for their performance.
The end result, a readers' theater that was humorous, entertaining, and the perfect end to the fairy tale genre!
