French Market Immersion Experience

Last week, our French students were transported from the Upper School's Walter Hall Gym to a French market through an immersive class experience.

An annual activity led by Mademoiselle Wert since 2014 that provides an authentic and hands-on way to practice speaking French, the market experience serves as a culmination for the French 2 "Au marché" (European Market) thematic unit. This year, French 3 students in Madame Sanborn's class volunteered to become involved in the activity, enriching the overall experience for all participants.

To set the scene, we arranged a variety of food, including delicious pastries, fruit, quiche, and coffee, at a series of booths. Speaking only in French, each student practiced talking to a "vendor" and using fake euros to "purchase" their selections.

Our students had a great time food shopping, eating, enjoying each other's company, and - most importantly - gaining casual speaking experience in the target language.
