Athletic Updates Including New Start Dates

August 27, 2020

Dear Moravian Academy Families,

We continue to monitor the state of athletics across the commonwealth and in our region and are following the latest recommendations from the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association and our partners at St. Luke’s University Health Network.

We have used the last few weeks to provide our student-athletes with voluntary workouts and we have adhered to our phased-in approach to a return to athletics.  This week we have entered the next phase of our return to play plan with the beginning of daily Upper School fall athletic practices.  This phase includes a progressive return to live play in our field sports and the beginning of tennis challenge matches.

We have pushed back the start of Upper School competitions. Here are the first dates for Varsity and Junior Varsity by team:

  • September 14th: Golf and Girls’ Tennis
  • September 21st: Cross Country, Field Hockey, Boys’ Soccer, and Girls’ Soccer

Moravian Academy’s delay in the competitive seasons will provide our school the opportunity to examine the situation in our community.  In addition, it also allows time to evaluate the environment with our Colonial League partners across multiple counties as they return to school and competitions.

We have pushed back the start of Middle School athletic practices tentatively until Tuesday, September 8th. We will examine the health data as well as the ongoing cohorting practices at the Middle School before moving forward. We will send an update next week on our decision.

It has been an exciting time to see our students back on our campuses.  We appreciate your patience during these unprecedented times.  We understand the value and importance of athletics as a part of our community and hope to provide safe and healthy opportunities for our student-athletes this fall. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Go Lions!

Thank you,

Manny Oudin
