Athletics Update: October 6, 2023
It has been a busy week full of great performances!
Chessie Bartolacci '24 won the District XI singles tournament for the third time in four years. Also on the courts, Laura Li '26 and Penelope Blomfield '27 earned a silver medal in the District Doubles tournament. The team will shift their attention to the team District competition. This will start on Monday, October 9, as they will host Wilson in the ¼ final round. Match is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
The varsity golf team won the District XI Team Title and will now compete in the sub-regional with the intention to qualify for the PIAA Championships at Penn State. From an individual standpoint, Mara Dubacher '26 won gold in the individual golf District Tournament and Emma Xu '25 earned a bronze medal. On the boys’ side, Colin Schreiber '26 earned a silver medal. All three have advanced to the individual PIAA Championship set to take place at Penn State on October 16 and 17.
The boys’ soccer team has posted two Colonial League victories this week to solidify their playoff spot. The team will face two strong non-conference opponents as they travel to Boyertown on Friday and will host District 2 powerhouse, Fleetwood, on Monday, October 9. Kickoff will be at 4:00 PM. The Colonial League playoff dates have been set and the boys will likely play on Monday, October 16 at a site and time to be announced. The team’s record sits now at 11-3.
We took some time after Thursday’s field hockey game vs. Wilson to recognize our seniors and their families. The team fought the visiting warriors to a 1-1 tie and will need a good performance as they travel to Palmerton to secure a league playoff spot. The team needs to finish strong as they hope to also qualify for the District playoff. The overall record is 7-6-1. Thanks to Ben Greenberg '25 for the photos!
The boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams traveled to Palisades this past week. The runners have continued to demonstrate improvement throughout the year and both teams posted a 2-1 record on the day. With the final meet of the regular season set to take place next week as the teams travel to Northwestern, the runners will look to finish strong with their eyes set on the Colonial League Championship. The boys’ team’s record is currently 11-10 with the girls’ team at 12-9.
Big week for the girls’ soccer team as they defeated Salisbury by a 8-0 score and then followed up that result with a 1-0 road win over Bangor. With a league record of 7-5, they will now wait for other results to see if they have secured a Colonial League playoff spot. On the District level, the team has qualified for the tournament and will look to defend their title.
