Athletics Update: October 8

We are entering the last week of the regular season for our cross-country, field hockey, and boys' and girls' soccer teams.  The Colonial League playoffs are set to start on Saturday, October 16.  Locations and game times will be posted this upcoming week on the Colonial League website.

Here are our teams’ current records:

Boys’ Cross Country: 12-9

Girls’ Cross Country: 14-7

Field Hockey: 11-3

Golf: 9-4

Boys’ Soccer: 12-2

Girls’ Soccer: 9-3-1

Girls’ Tennis: 12-0 

 

Thomas Young '24 and Sebastian Holbrook '22 both advanced to the District XI Championship with some great performances last week. Thomas finished in 1st place in the qualifier with 2A low score of 74 while Sebastian earned a 3rd place finish with a 78.

The varsity boys’ soccer team has posted three victories this week outscoring their opponents by a 22-3 margin.  They will look to finish the week on a positive note by hosting Plumstead Christian this afternoon on the Merle-Smith Campus.  The boys’ are currently ranked the #1 team in the State on this week’s PA soccer coaches poll.  The boys’ will finish the regular season in the league as the top team in the Colonial League and have earned a bye to the league semi-finals that will take place the week of October 18.

The varsity girls’ soccer team also posted three strong results in the Colonial League.  With victories over Pen Argyl, Wilson, and Salisbury, they have secured a Colonial League playoff spot and will play in the ¼ finals on Saturday, October 16.  On Tuesday, October 12, we will take the opportunity to recognize our seniors at halftime of the game as our team welcomes Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.  Congratulations to the following seniors and their families:

The varsity field hockey team will also play on Friday to finish up a challenging week.  The team will travel to Bangor in the hope of securing a Colonial League victory as they look to claim the top spot and a first-round playoff bye in the East Division.  With three Colonial League games remaining, every game is important as we look to position ourselves for the post-season.  Congratulation to Nikki Chiaradia '22 with her selection as the Lehigh Valley Live Field Hockey Player of the Week.

Chiaradia continues to find the cage with consistency. The senior totaled 10 goals as the Lions defeated Northwestern Lehigh, Salisbury and Pen Argyl. She notched five of Moravian Academy’s six scores vs. the Falcons.

The boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams are also entering their last week of the regular seasons.  The teams will travel to Northwestern on Tuesday for their final league meet.  The boys will start at 3:30 PM and the girls will follow at 4 PM.  Palisades will host a sub-varsity and middle school league race on Thursday, Oct. 14.  

The varsity girls’ tennis team will look to secure a Team District Championship as they start the competition this upcoming week.  Click here for all the District XI girls’ tennis information.

As we look forward to the winter season, students have been signing up for participating in boys’ and girls’ basketball and boys’ and girls’ swimming.  The official start of practices for winter sports is Friday, November 19.  Open gym and Open swim opportunities will be shared by our coaches.  

For Spring sports athletes who are planning in participating in Baseball, Boys’ Lacrosse, Girls’ Lacrosse, Softball (w/ Notre Dame), Boys’ Tennis, and Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Field (w/ Notre Dame), practices will begin on Monday, March 7.  Competitions will begin the week of March 21st during our spring break.  We will compete during those 2 weeks of spring break.
