Computer Science Education Week
The Merle-Smith Campus took part in CSEdWeek, an annual call to action to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equity in computer science education, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field.
This year's theme is "CS is everywhere," in order to highlight "the impact that computer science is making everywhere and the relationship that computer science has to different subjects, industries, career paths, and our everyday lives."
To explore the many ways computer science and programmers influence our lives, students in their advisories had the opportunity to either research CS impact in various career sectors or complete a CS Hero digital scavenger hunt.
Then, all students created a poster about a CS Hero of their choice.
After being inspired by computer science heroes spanning industries and generations, it was time for students to "demystify code." Every student participated in the #hourofcode to learn the basics of computer science or to work on a more advanced project if they had already mastered introductory skills.
In honor of CSEdWeek, we also want to remind students that there are plenty of computer science opportunities on the Merle-Smith Campus!
