Learn More About IAC Competitions for Your Student

February 11, 2022

Is your student interested in competing in the IAC regional competitions? Learn more from MA parent IAC regional coordinator, Peter Schmidt.

Hello Fellow Moravian Middle-School Parents,

My name is Peter Schmidt, father of Moravian 8th-grader, Nathaniel Schmidt. In addition to running my own business, I serve as the regional coordinator for International Academic Competitions (IAC), which runs the National History Bee and Bowl.

A few weeks back, many of our middle school students took one or more of these three IAC exams: Geography, History and Science. Those students who did well were invited to compete at the regional level. If they do especially well at regionals, they will be invited to attend the National IAC Middle School Finals in Orlando this June. My own feeling, though, is that kids can have a fun and intellectually rewarding experience simply by attending regionals.

I do realize, though, that our kids don’t know much about how these competitions work, so I would like to invite you all to attend an online demonstration next week. With some help from Nathaniel and a few other students, I can show everyone exactly how this competition works, so you and your children can decide whether or not to attend a regionals competition. As it happens, two nearby regional events are coming up quite soon: one at Princeton University the weekend of February 25-26th, and one right here at Muhlenberg College on March 12th.

If you are interested in attending an online meeting, please write me at peterschmidt@iacompetitions.com to let me know which evenings (7 or 7:30 PM) next week would be convenient for you and your kids.

That’s all. See you on Zoom!

Peter Schmidt

P.S. I realize that most of you don’t know me, and that some folks may have seen my name in connection with my business, Prepare Test Preparation. I want you to know that, while test prep is my business, the world of academic competitions is a passion, and I strive to keep the two things separate. For reference, you can contact the family of Okezue Bell, MA 11th grader, or Eric Adams, father or Alex Adams, Moravian Academy Class of 2020. I have coached both boys on the high school level of the National History Bee and Bowl, so both families can speak to my integrity and dedication.
