Moravian Academy Transitions from Securly to GoGuardian

In today's digital age, cyber safety has become a crucial aspect of our students' well-being and is a priority of our school. We are taking proactive steps to further strengthen the online security of our students by adopting a new Internet filtering and safety system. Moravian Academy will transition from Securly (our current system) to GoGuardian Admin as our chosen platform for Internet filtering and GoGuardian Beacon for student safety. 

This changeover will be completed by February 1, 2024. 

 

Key features of GoGuardian include:

  1. Enhanced Web Filtering: GoGuardian provides more advanced and customizable web filtering options, allowing us to better control and monitor the content accessible to students.

  2. Student Safety: With GoGuardian Beacon, we can quickly and easily identify, when needed, if a student accesses content or exhibits online behaviors that may be related to self-harm or suicide. This software helps notify the school officials who are assigned to the escalation list in Beacon. As a reminder, it is important to know that neither the school nor GoGuardian Beacon can detect every sign of suicidal thoughts in students.

  3. Detailed Reporting: The platform offers comprehensive reporting tools, giving us insights into students' online behavior and helping us make informed decisions to further enhance their safety.

 

When and how does GoGuardian operate?

GoGuardian’s services operate on our school’s managed Google Suite for Education accounts, meaning it is activated when a student is logged into any device, school or personal, using Google Chrome with his/her school email address (@mamail.net). Therefore, parents and families are advised to log out of school accounts when using a personal device for non-school purposes.

 

How does GoGuardian help protect my child’s privacy?

To help your child remain scholarly and safe online, GoGuardian Admin allows the tracking of each student’s browsing history. GoGuardian has consulted with privacy experts, participates in privacy organizations, is a proud signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge, and has been awarded certifications by iKeepSafe for complying with both the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act and California student privacy laws.
