Oakes Fegley '23 Stars in "The Goldfinch"

Oakes Fegley '23 was recently featured in The Morning Call for his major acting role in the 2019 film, "The Goldfinch."

Fegley, who has appeared twice as Tiny Tim in Civic Theatre's "A Christmas Carol" and played Chicken Soup in "Really Rosie" at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, already boasts an impressive resume.

The 15-year-old worked alongside Robert Redford and Bryce Dallas Howard in “Pete’s Dragon,” Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams in “Wonderstruck” and Robert DeNiro in the still-unreleased “War With Grandpa.”

But arguably his meatiest role is playing the central role of Theo in John Crowley’s adaptation of Donna Tartt’s mammoth Pulitzer Prize winning novel “The Goldfinch.” (Ansel Elgort plays Theo as an adult).

While “The Goldfinch” can’t match the insights delivered by the lengthy book, the film is beautifully photographed and quietly heartbreaking, with Fegley delivering arguably the picture’s truest, most authentic performance.
