Jagger Hornik ’20: Student Reporter for D11Sports.com

May 12, 2020

In August, Jagger Hornik ’20 signed on to become a reporter for D11Sports.com, a website launched in 2018 dedicated to providing sports coverage of District XI high schools.

“When [athletic director] Mr. Oudin sent an email seeking student reporters, I knew I wanted to get involved because I follow high school athletics closely and have always had an interest in reading sports articles,” said Jagger.

Throughout the fall sports season, Jagger covered several highlights, including basketball athlete Maya Ettle ’20’s 1,000th point milestone, our boys’ soccer team’s Colonial League win, and our senior athletes’ Division I signing ceremony.

Jagger’s favorite part of the role? “When the boys’ soccer team won the Colonial League title after a walk-off goal, I was able to be on the field interviewing players and getting up close pictures of the players and their medals. It was such a neat experience.”

Thanks in part to his experience gained as a journalist for D11Sports.com and his overall passion for sports, Jagger is exploring the possibility of a future career as a sports commentator.

For anyone even remotely interested in becoming a D11Sports.com student journalist, Jagger encourages involvement. “You get the opportunity to be on the sidelines or courtside at games. There is always someone else from another school covering a game so you get to meet new friends, and the people who run the program are really great to work with.”
