Neha Skandan '21 has been named a semifinalist in the United States Presidential Scholars Program. The United States Department of Education has chosen approximately 625 semifinalists out of the 6,500 candidates across the nation for the program. In mid-May, the Department will select two high school students from each state to be named as U.S. Presidential Scholars and recognized at the White House by the U.S. Department of Education.
After completing our study of the regions of the United States, we have moved on to our neighbor to the south, Mexico. We are reading and researching topics on climate, products and natural resources, landmarks, culture, and government.
Students in the AP Spanish Language & Culture course read the novel Como agua para chocolate (Like water for chocolate) by Mexican author, Laura Esquivel. After reading the novel in Spanish, students created and self-published a website to summarize, analyze, and teach the novel, which included character biographies, character diaries, cooking demonstrations, teaching/study suggestions, a graphic version of the novel, and more.
