Reminiscing About Ski Club

April 24, 2020

Over five Fridays after the winter break, students at Moravian Academy who participate in the annual ski club go up to Camelback in Tannersville for five uninterrupted hours of skiing or snowboarding.

I always look forward to the end of each week when I can take a break from school and go skiing with my friends, whether it was one of the good weeks at school or one of the bad weeks.

I have participated in ski club every Friday it was offered since 6th grade. In it, I have also learned something that is probably useful to know how to do: ski. I took lessons my first year every Friday, and even though my friends didn’t, it was still convenient to meet up with them for dinner in the lodge afterward. Although I enjoy skiing and hanging out in the lodge with my friends, my favorite part about ski club is definitely getting to talk with my friends on the lifts up the mountain. It’s a great time to catch up about school, sports, or basically anything while surrounded by nature with an amazing view behind us.

Ski club has also somehow made me a more courageous person overall. In the beginning, I only went on the easiest greens and never went on rollercoasters because of a small fear of heights. Now, I still go down greens to practice tricks (like laying down while skiing!) but I am more open to going down blues and maybe even blacks or terrain parks, and I can actually go on rollercoasters! All in all, ski club is always an entertaining and exciting way to end a week of school, and I find it to be one of my favorite things to do at Moravian Academy during the winter.
